What will make you website stand out?

Igor Vishnevskiy - June 18, 2008
In one of the issues of Advertising Age newspaper I came across one article; "What will make my site stand out?" by Natalie Zmunda. The article stated that to make an impact with your website, you should think 3-D, like Second Life did. Well that's an opinion of Natalie Zmunda and I don't agree with it.

I suggest staying simple and user friendly. Simplicity is the key! Look at craigslist.com. The site looks ancient, but at the same time it's simple, user friendly and most of all it is search engine friendly.

Most of web surfers use search engines such as Google.com, to find stuff. Good luck to find sites built using Macromedia Flash. Flash sites are not search engine friendly. Craigslist.com types of sites are search engine friendly and attract millions of unique visitors daily, even when designed to look prehistoric.

Internet was invented as an informational resource and most of us use it to find that information. How much information in regular text does you site have? How easy is it to navigate your site for users and search engines? How often do you update the information provided on your site? How often do you add new things to the information that long ago became an old news for your site? Are your articles unique? That's the questions you should worry about.

Forget about 3-D. It's all about simplicity and search engine optimization. Google.com search engine for example, loves blog sites. Go through various blog sites and see how are they designed. That's exactly how your website should be designed for Google.com to fall in love with it. About the author
