What is a SEO Writer?
"What does that mean? I know you are a writer, But SEO?" "Well I optimize websites for search engines.....and blah blah " I go on
"Oh... So you do research on keywords and add meta tags to Websites" concludes my girl.
I breathe out slowly. "Yes, that a part of my job profile..." I offer, wondering how on earth did search engine optimization is not recognized as a field.
So you don't know what SEO actually means? I tell my girlfriend. It means search engine optimization. So, what exactly is SEO writing and how do you go about becoming a professional SEO writer?
For an instance, When a googler,searches for a key phrase "free mp3", Google tries to rank the resulting links according to the keywords. This is where the pagerank and the google searching mechanism comes into picture. The job of an SEO writer is to convince the search engine robot so that it picks up that site during crawling. In other words, The SEO researches on the keywords and tries to understand the top keywords searched by the users.
An SEO writer -- apart from being a good writer -- should also be aware of how the source of the web page appears to the search engines. It's necessary for him to keep himself abreast with the latest SEO Trends. It's also important that an SEO writer should have experience in Web Designing, and have a fair knowledge of XHTML(Creating sitemaps), HTML,ASP, PHP CSS and other scripting languages.
The tasks a SEO Writer does includes Onpage Optimization, Directory Submission, Articles Writing and Submission, Blogging, Promoting sites through SMO(Social Media Optimization)
In Search Engine Marketing, a SEO writer has to work for managing accounts in Google Adwords wherein he creates ads and does selection for appropriate keywords with minimum bidding for placement-targeted and keyword-targeted campaigns.
So if you think you are a prolific writer and internet savvy, and know all the rules of this business, voila! you have just found the right career.
I hope I have dispensed with some SEO myths. In the meanwhile I'm holding out until the day arrives, when search engine optimization is recognized as a science. Until then, smile gracefully and acknowledge a profession called as SEO, because we can screw up your search rankings.
