Web Designers Vs Search Engine Optimisers, Is there a battle raging or is it all...
Now, we have all heard about the argument that went on for some time about whether SEO was rocket science or not, man that went on too long but in my opinion, and frankly that’s all I can give, search engine optimisation isn’t rocket science, in its crudest form its following a set of rules to create a desired outcome. But wait! If we then think about that statement that pretty much could describe most of our jobs. Ok so what are we saying here, well it shows a lack of understanding of the SEO world to say that optimisation is not rocket science, if you understand that SEO is more than fooling search engines and think of it as more of a marketing role it becomes a little more clear as to how the good SEO consultants make the job into an art. It is about making the most of a website, it’s about looking at how a site can get the best exposure across the online community but also it is looking at the web design as well and seeing if we can’t improve that side of it to increase sales conversions.
If we look at most web sites, they will all want traffic to their site, high rankings for important keywords will drive traffic to their site, but, and much more importantly, how do they deal with that traffic? There is no point in driving huge amounts of traffic using a well placed blog on a popular blog site if 90% of that traffic is not interested in the products or services the web site offers. Great statistics for the SEO company to trumpet a triumph, but could leave the client out of pocket and feeling a little let down, and even worse without an argument against the SEO company as their results speak for themselves, which we know they don’t show the whole picture. If we take a holistic approach to search engine optimisation and web site marketing, we then start to see the art, we start to see that SEO isn’t a service to be added on to the web designers service but an effective role, an effective service that can, with a good consultant, pay for itself many times over. We can also see that through conversion analysing and good analytics data we can assist, yes I said it, assist web designers in producing more effective web sites that help to sell products and services.
Web designers, I believe, have enough on their plates and SEO is not something that can be quickly added to a site, yes we can all change meta data and add relevant content but SEO is so much more than that and that’s why I was driven to write this article because I don’t want web designers to see SEO’s as threats to their living but rather another aspect of the web team that brings value and a marketing expertise that can help build effective web sites that naturally help the visitor to find what they are looking for.
If or rather when you enlist a SEO consultant or managed search engine marketing company make sure you ask them what they intend to do, there reasons why they are proposing the work and a breakdown of costs. There are many different aspects within the SEO consultant’s repertoire and, if confident and good at what they do, will be happy to discuss all parts of their work. SEO includes marketing strategies, organic search optimisation, paid search (or PPC) services, link building strategies, conversion analysis, amongst other services, so get the most out of your SEO consultant and if they are good, they will offer you an effective service at a reasonable cost which will be transparent and pay for itself over time.
I offer the white flag to web designers! We get approached all the time by customers whose web site could do with a facelift, a web designer and an SEO consultant is a much more effective partnership than the same pair working separately and often against each other. If you would like to discuss any points raised in this article, the SEO services we offer or if you are a web designer who is maybe interested in partnering or enlisting our white label SEO services please feel free to contact us on the details given.
