Beware Of The So Called SEO Experts
My main website has been online since 1999 and in those early days I did not really have a clue as to how to market or promote the site. I did however, like I am sure most webmasters do, want to see the site highly placed in the major search engines for all of its main keywords.
From reading a number of forums I managed to find a man who claimed to be an SEO expert. His prices were not cheap which strangely enough made the whole scam seem even more trustworthy. I quickly signed him up to work on promoting my website. A year later and after a lot of money had been spent, the site was still quite poorly ranked. All I was hearing from this so called SEO expert was that I needed to be patient as these things take time. Now I understand that patience is required but after twelve months I had expected some much higher search engine rankings than what he had produced. I would have been far better off using and spending the money on Google adwords.
My advice to people who are looking for an SEO expert would be to ask the person or company for examples of their past success stories, for examples of websites that they have worked on. I would then phone the webmaster of the site concerned to verify the story etc.
I would also ask him/her about the ways in which they plan to promote the site and would then do a bit of self study to see if these techniques are known to work.
In my opinion it is always best to be prudent and to ask a lot of questions before parting with any cash.
