Better SEO, Keywords and More Traffic
If your trying to boost your sites traffic thru organic search - you know that "keywords" are very important. I am not going to hit all the possible SEO things [tips] you can do to increase your search results on Google. But rather just cause you to think a bit about a new feature Google has implemented in it's tools.
If you use adwords I'm sure you've seen the "keyword" tool. You can now use that tool without actually being in the process of placing an adwords ad. Which is good since apparently - Overture - the best [ my opinion ] keyword search tool is no more.....
But Google the ever expanding juggernaut that eats everything and makes everything it's own has finally expanded their tools for some real use. Keyword search popularity - with actual numeric count of the words. Meaning, they show you a numeric number [ how many times ] a keyword or key phrase has been searched.
Take for example: Wild Girls
This site used the tool to show how many times people searched for the terms - Pamela Anderson, Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears. Using the stats - they rated their hotness by the amount of searches that were made in the month of june 2008. Kinda cool....
In the long run, you as a webmaster or a blogger who wants to capitalize on keywords that are searched for in large mass quantities - can pin point which keywords you want to focus on - or even write on subjects that bring in large search results. Ofcourse this doesn't guarantee large amounts of traffic on it's own. You still need to follow all the other basic seo tips to improve your search results for your site - but this can improve your stats.
Think of it - if 4 million searches were made for the keyword "Britney Spears" in the month of June in 2008 - if your site is about fashion or shoes or related to celebrities and so forth - having Britney Spears on your site [ as content ] will surely help draw people to your site. Even if you were only able to draw .05% of that traffic - 4 million X .05 = 200,000 search results that you can benefit from [ yes I'm stretching the numbers and I know that doesn't mean you'll get top page result - but you get the drift. Better targeting keywords with good SEO will help you get more traffic. Is that simple enough?
