SEO may seem to you like merely another acronym, but it could prove extremely valuable to you and your business. It stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and is the process of improving your website in order for it to achieve higher rankings in search engine results. As a marketing strategy, it’s certainly one of the more practical and effective. Here are some tips concerning this aspect of Internet technology:

All web pages should have navigational links. This allows a search engine to locate each page. Search engines look for html link tags, meaning that JavaScript and Flash links or images, should be avoided.

Put relevant content on your site. Your contents should relate to your product as much as possible, increasing your chance of a better ranking. It’s firstly a case of research and price comparison for the majority of people searching the web, so your contents and features should attract the user. Your product has ever likelihood of being purchased, once you have sufficiently impressed the searcher.

Place keywords in your text. All your text contents should have keywords, which relate specifically to your product or service. This will then enable search engine spiders to detect them. This vastly increases your chances of ranking higher in search engines. The over usage of keywords should be avoided. This is only wasteful. Good proportion and regularity are the key things to focus on with keywords.

Be sure to use related words in Meta tags, headers and titles. The result will be a consistent, extensive range of keywords within your website. Search engines place a lot of emphasis on these three aspects of your website. More than any other, in fact.

Keep a level of uniformity within your use of keywords. Shuffling the order of phrases and terms often results in an imbalance. An imbalance, which will cause your ranking to plummet.

Make sure you use keywords in your file names. This is an essential key, which should always be remembered, in order to rank highly. Also use an underscore between keywords. This enhances the chances of being detected by search engines. Keywords should describe the contents of your webpage.

Your links should use keywords as well. The more intelligent search engines, so use keywords that best describe the webpage link can identify the content of links.

Submit your website. Use relevant and popular sources, such as Zeal.com, Yahoo.com and DMOZ.org. These feature among the more popular manually edited Internet directories, and are used by well-known search engines such as Google, AltaVista, LookSmart and Yahoo. There are submission restrictions so follow these, or risk being rejected.
